Oh pottery I love you..

Well the weekend is over and I have 27 pieces of pottery to reflect a successful 2 days.  I have been a potter now for about 15 years, but now teaching full time and keeping up with my 2 creative kids, leaves little time to be creative myself.  I think that people just expect an art teacher to be creating at all times, well that is true of me 99% of the time.  I make cards, journals, paint (murals and pictures).  I often let my own kids find the glue and beads to assemble various artwork, but to actually have time to throw pottery...well...I have a kiln and a wheel and I love throwing pots, it was my concentration for my BFA.  I find myself thinking about the pots I want to make, then I seem to get sidetracked with another project.  Well this weekend was a huge success.  I sat down Saturday and got 9 mugs and 9 bowls thrown, mostly for gifts I promised.  Today I went to my studio to add handles to all my mugs and was drawn back to the wheel for another 9 bowls.  Now let me say that this seems all perfect and Zen like, but I did have a 2 year old playing in paint and clay the entire time I was throwing.  I didn't mind her company, in fact I loved that she will know clay at an early age.  So with all that said...I had a very successful day being an artist, not just an art teacher who wishes to make more art.
